I don't know, I think that question will always remain as such, a question! At least for awhile.

One school of thought would dictate that if your immune system is compromised, then your odds ratio goes up for dire complications should you have to endure an aggressive flu. As with any flu, those whose immune systems cannot deal with that kind of confrontation, have problems so a flu shot proactively makes sense.

On the other hand, I remember comments from a PhD physiologist instructor back in the day, who felt that flu shots had two edges: they do stimulate your immune system to attack whatever attenuated viruses are in the shot de jour, but at the expense of the activation of a finite number of T-cells that your body can produce in its lifetime. When you run low on T-cells later in life, you are sort of at mercy of all confrontational attacks thereafter and then have no natural defenses available.

Thank God we don't have to take these bodies with us when we go, right?!

CRPS did not qualify as high risk (or so they said) in my Vancouver Dr. Office. I was turned away for the H1N1 flu shot and told to come back in 2 weeks or more when they immunize the "healthy" young adults. I was absolutely shocked considering they have my medical records including reports from the California Pain Center (where I get Ketamine treatments every 8 weeks). Yet Im supposedly "health" WTF.

So sick of the ignorant health care workers in the Canadian system. Just because I dont look sick all the time doesnt mean there isnt anything wrong!!

Hi keeptrying, Welcome to Neurotalk- I'm so sorry you were turned away. It's unbelievable there is so much ignorance concerning our disorder. So much pain, not just for us, but our families and friends.
This is a wonderful place to come for support and comfort from people who really understand and care. I hope you come back and share with us a little bit about yourself and treatment. Where is the pain center that you go to? How do you respond to ketamine treatments?

The last time that I got a shot just for the regular flu and this was when I did have RSD. Six hours after I got the shot I was laying in bed and I knew that something was wrong. I was getting weaker and very dizzy. I then took my temp. Which turned out to be 105 and going up! I fianally had to call an ambulance about 2a.m. By the time we got to the hospital it was about 106! So they put me in cold ice and an i.v. solution. Needlees to say I have not had a shot since then! Breezy
