Lightbulb neuroprotective effects of oil of bergamot which is in Earl Grey Tea

The essential oil of bergamot enhances the levels of amino acid neurotransmitters in the hippocampus of rat:
Implication of monoterpene hydrocarbons

Neuroprotective effects
Recently, bergamot essential oil has been found to reduce excitotoxic damage to cultured human neuronal cells in vitro and may therefore have neuroprotective properties. [11]

Conclusions and Implications:
Our data demonstrate that BEO reduces neuronal damage caused in vitro by excitotoxic stimuli and that this neuroprotection was associated with prevention of injury-induced engagement of critical death pathways.
